Top 5 Christmas movies

Hi everyone, Christmas movies are a Christmas tradition like no other so I figured I would share my top 5. Let me know what Christmas movies make the cut for you!

1.How the Grinch Stole Christmas: By far my all-time favorite Christmas movie. Either version is phenomenal, but the more recel-grinch-fotoent, un-animated version comes out on top. It is hilarious and I relate to the Grinch so much. Also, it is almost never on, so when it is, it is definitely a treat.

2. Home Alone: This movie is the sole thing that taught me that it’s okay to laugh at other people’s pain.

3. The Polar Express: Such a classic. My favorite part was when the conductor cut out words into each of the children’s tickets and I remember I bought a hole punch to recreate those ticket… without success, I might add.

4.Fred Claus: This was one of the worst movies ever, it was good. I haven’t seen it in ages but Vince Vaughn and a British actress whose name I can’t remember did too. The only thing I really remember is that at the end of the movie Vince Vaughn is in that woman’s bedroom and she says ‘Wh-Why are you in my bedroom?” and the way she said bedroom my sister and I still laugh at it and I have absolutely no idea why.

5. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer- This movie is such a classic and I would add Frosty the Snowman, and Santa Claus is coming to town because the three of these movies go together like me and falling in ice.

Holiday Bucket List

Hi everyone! Today’s Blogmas post is all about my bucket list for the holidays! I love doing fun wintery things in the city, with friends, and then some! So, here’s a fun list of things I want to get done during this holiday season!

  1. Finish Christmas Shopping: I have a few more to buy but the bulk is done!!
  2. See the Christmas trees at the Museum of Science and Industry: We used to do this almost every year but haven’t in a while and it is such a cool thing. You get to experience Christmases from all over the world
  3. Celebrate my friend’s 21st birthday!!!
  4. Drive around and look at Christmas decorations: There is one road I drive on a lot that millionaires (owner of Portillos) live on and they have the most extravagant Christmas displays. Such a beautiful thing to marvel at.
  5. See the Macy’s tree and windows: I know so many people go to Macy’s in the winter to admire the Christmas windows and the Christmas tree in the nutcracker room but I have never done this and have always wanted to.
  6. Go to Wisconsin for the weekend
  7. Put up the Christmas tree
  8. Have a Christmas movie night: Including but not limited to: Fred Claus, Elf, Home Alone, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Santa Claus is Coming to Town
  9. Go sledding
  10. Read some good books with some wintery drinks: I have been slacking with reading and just need a cozy environment and some hot chocolate to get back into the groove of things
  11. See all of my friends while they are home on break
  12. Dress up on Christmas: You’re typically lucky to get me in jeans on any given holiday
  13. Do a winter photo shoot: Going to city with super cute clothes, snow, and holiday lights… what else should I be doing?
  14. Try to take a family photo… key word is try: My sister hates smiling, my mom can’t open her eyes and I give my dad the side-eye every time he tries to be funny… 100 attempts and still nothing worthy of sending to our 100 closest friends.
  15. Shovel some now: It’s good exercise and it’ll be nice if I do it so my dad doesn’t have to wake up early to shovel every morning
  16. Build a snowman
  17. Eat a candy cane: I used to eat them all the time but I haven’t had one in a while and I feel like the holidays can’t start until I have sharpened my candy cane to a weapon a mouth destruction
  18. Make Christmas cookies: Vegan ones of course
  19. Build a gingerbread house: They are super fun to make but I always ended throwing mine away because… I hate ginger.
  20. Spend some quality time with my loved ones while I am home

There’s my list… what’s yours???

My Christmas wish list

Hi everyone, and welcome to my next day of Blogmas… my Christmas List. Making a wish list is always hard for me because I usually don’t need/want a lot of things, however, I was able to come up with a few things that would be amazing to have, a few pertaining to my time at school.

  1. A Keurig- My roommate and I drink a ton of coffee, tea, and hot chocolate and we both agreed how nice it would be to have a Keurig next semester to spend less. This will be super cool to have next semester and also during the rest of my time at school 🙂
  2. Avocado huggers- Okay these may sound stupid but they’re actually genius. I love avocados and sometimes I don’t need/want a whole one but I have to anyways because they rot so quickly once sliced open. These huggers are placed on the avocado to help stay ripe longer
  3. A Himalayan Salt Lamp- I just think these are super cool and they’re supposedly good improving sleep, aiding in asthma and allergy symptoms, and increasing serotonin levels in the brain all of which I could use!!
  4.  Eat, Pray Love- this bad boy was on my list last year and I didn’t get it so I decided to ask for it again because I really hope to read it because everyone tells me I am similar to the main character 🙂
  5. Some sort of Lush gift set- Getting anything from lush makes my Christmas and the cute gift sets are even better! I love trying all of their festive winter products and getting other products I have loved for ages

That’s all for my wishlist… What’s on yours??

The Christmas Tag

Hi everyone and welcome to Blogmas Day 3! I did a Christmas tag last year as well and wantd to do another one this year!!! I’m going to tag everyone participating in Blogmas to do it as well!! If you aren’t and want to participate as well… Please do!!!!

  1. When do you put your Christmas tree up? Take it down? We try to get it up the weekend after Thanksgiving. I don’t think my family has put it up but I’m honestly not sure… We take it down New Year’s Day or the weekend following.
  2. What is your tree topper? We have an angel on top of our tree but none of us are religious? I want to put a star on top of it and will have a star on my own one day
  3. Is your tree real or synthetic? Synthetic. It;s just so much easier, cheaper, and les messy
  4. Favorite Christmas Scent? Peppermint or cinnamon
  5. Can you name all of Santa’s Reindeer? Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, and Blitzen and do you recall the most famous reindeer of all Rudolph
  6. When did you stop believing in Christmas? My neighbor ruined it for me in 5th grade I believe but I believed for another year or so
  7. White lights or colored lights? I think white lights are really classy but I love colored lights and my house is always littered in colored lights!
  8. Do you open presents on Christmas Eve or Morning? Both. I go to 5 Christmas parties over the span of 3 days so we are constantly opening gifts
  9. Have you ever had a white Christmas? Typically yes but sometimes no
  10. Are your wrapping skills pinterest worthy or “Let’s use a giftbag” worthy?” Okie dokie folks. When it comes to like clothes boxes or normally shaped presents I can wrap like no other… but when it comes to like kids toys that are neither rectangular or fit into rectangular spaces.. Put it in a giftbag.
  11. All time favorite Christmas Song? Mariah Carey’s “All I want for Christmas is You.” It is such a jam and you can find me singing it at any point of the entire year. I’m also a huge fan of “You’re a mean one Mr. Grinch”
  12. Have you ever made a snowman? Of course I have. They are so annoyingly hard though. Like you make the bottom and you’re like “Ok.. I’m done.. Oh wait, I have to make two more of those things.” Plus I could never find accessories for him/her despite knowing we have like 30 pairs of gloves hidden in my house that we never use.

If you end up doing this tag, tag me  so I can see your answers!!!!

  2. Get a 3.5 GPA or higher- I’m not sure if I will know whether or not this happened in December but all my hard working towards this will happen in December
  3. Finish Christmas shopping- I still have my mom and a couple friends but I’m doing good
  4. Try not to be a hermit- I want to go and do things with friends and family but whenever I go home I just like to curl up into a blanket burrito and sleep
  5. Stay hydrous- Drink water girlfriend!! This is always a goal but it is always so important soooooo

Until tomorrow

I’m doing Blogmas… A day late

Hi all, long time no talk. November was by far the busiest month of my life. I will have a bit of a life update post in the coming days but I wanted to announce that I will be doing  Blogmas again!! I am going to try my hardest to post each day but with finals and one of my friends staying at my house for a week it may not happen… bear with me.

I’m going to start Blogmas off with my 5 favorite Christmas memories because I need some good vibes after the past few weeks I have had and the next 2 weeks that are to come. I don’t think I did this one last year… but if I did… I don’t care haha I love Christmas and Christmas always makes me nostalgic so I love reminiscing about past holidays

  1. Christmas 2007 was sort of a coming of age memory for me. In my family, we have a tradition where on holidays (mainly Christmas because my aunt is in town) we play a  card game called “Hate, Malice, and Spite” and 2007 is the year I was finally allowed to learn to play.  My aunt told me I had to be double digits to learn due to the family tradition but it was an
    Seeing friends Christmas 2015

exception for me because she thought my competitiveness would suck all the fun right out of the game… I think it makes the game more fun but who am I to judge?

  2. Christmas 2013 was a personal favorite of mine because I got to attend my first every ugly Christmas sweater party. After years of seeing them in movies and TV shows, I was finally able to make that dream of wearing an ugly Christmas sweater. This very night also started the demise of one of my closest friendships but that is a story for another day.
  3. Christmas 2014 was also a very memorable Christmas… haha. Every year my aunt sends me pictures of the ugliest Christmas sweaters she can find and they’re always accompanied with “Merry Christmas.”Well… that message has never been true until my aunt and uncle spent multiple hours handcrafting
    My homemade Christmas Sweater!!!

their own ugly Christmas sweater just for me

  4. 2 years ago was such a fun Christmas. I loved coming home to see all of my friends and family I hadn’t seen since leaving for San Diego. It was also great to come home and relax post-finals (something I can’t wait to do in 2 weeks as well) and just catch up with everyone I hadn’t seen or spoken to in a while
  5. Last year was sort of terrible BUT I got a gallon of soy sauce (don’t ask) and a Shrek Christmas sweater so if that doesn’t make it at least a memorable Christmas… I don’t know what will

Those are my favorite Christmas memories. What are yours??

Also if you’re also participating in Blogmas… Let me know so I can follow along on all of your posts as well!!!!

Until tomorrow, hopefully

2 years of veganism

Wow. 2 years of veganism. 2 years of being plant-based. Looking back on my past 2 years, I can’t say that they were all vegan. Especially at the start. I can’t say exactly how long I’ve been vegan, but I know that in these past 2 years so many animals were saved.

2 years ago, my roommate at the time, Delaney, showed me a video that forever changed my life. It was a video of a slaughterhouse somewhere in Europe (I believe Sweden) and these cows were being hung from their ankle on a conveyor belt as a man sliced their throats. I can still vividly see that image in my mind and I think it engrained there forever. It is the reason I stopped eating meat. And more videos just like that are the reasons I stopped consuming dairy.

These past 2 years have been rough. They have also been enlightening. But most of all they have been life-changing. I have done happy dances in stores when I found vegan chicken nuggets, vegan cupcakes, vegan macaroni and cheese, and so much more. I have binged on copious amounts of dairy-filled sweets, chocolate milk, and cheese.

I have changed so much as a person. I feel that veganism is truly a part of me and it has helped me morph myself into who I truly am and I sometimes wonder who I would be today had I not discovered veganism. My friends often ask me, “would you still have gone vegan had you not gone to San Diego?” And the truth is, I cannot answer that. I hope the answer is yes, but had I gone to school in Texas or Alabama, I really don’t think I would have.

It is so crazy to me how one decision can impact your entire life. In my last post, I said that I wished I had thought of Athens sooner, however, if I had started my freshman year at OU, odds are, I wouldn’t be vegan today. So, do I sometimes wish life was different and that I bypassed the stress of transferring, yes. Am I undoubtedly grateful that San Diego led me to veganism? Also yes.

8 down. 8 to go

Hi all, today marks the end of my eighth week in Ohio. I moved in literally 9 weeks ago today. Isn’t that crazy. It feels like I’ve just started yet we’re halfway done. Yet here I am, 9 weeks since that fateful night I was rethinking every aspect of me coming here, how I could transfer again, how I would make my dad drive 7 hours back to Ohio to pick me and all of my things up and head back home.

I had a really deep conversation about this with my roommate Wednesday night. Her friend is transferring to OU next semester so we were discussing our experiences and what we wish we knew, etc. She reassured me that she has also cried since being here. She cried about feeling alone, about credits not transferring, about not knowing what to do, etc. It made me feel so much better about my situation and wanting to go home and not thinking Ohio was the right place for me.

Olivia and I both agree that we haven’t made too many friends. CHAARG has helped immensely as have class and work and I’m making baby steps towards those ‘life-long college friends.’ But it’s hard.  It’s hard being singled out as transfer students. We aren’t surrounded by freshmen (people who also need/want friends) but we are surrounded by other transfer students (I can assure you that Olivia and I got the short end of the stick when it comes to the pick on our floor) and 2nd year students who have already found their niches on campus. Like I said, baby steps.

So, is school still weird? Yes, but a whole lot less weird. Ohio is beautiful and I love all of the people (minus those in Make America Great Again shirts). I truly believe that Ohio is the place I belong. Sometimes, though, I just wish I’d thought of Athens Ohio 3 years earlier.

Dorm Tour | ’17-’18

Hi everyone, I had planned on making this post weeks ago but after a finishing touch on my room was finally delivered today (I ordered it in August) I decided it would be the perfect time to show you my dorm. I have decided not to show my bathroom and sink area because…  there is nothing personal about it except a $4 soap dispenser and who doesn’t know what a bathroom looks like??

When you first step into my room, you are greeted with this adorable welcome mat that says “Home Sweet Home.” My roommate and I both loved it and we incorporated the vine theme above our beds. Stay tuned

Next is just an overview of my bed and study area. I figured I would show you all the big picture before I delved deeper into each section

Onto my bed area. Above my bed is the vine theme with some fake flowers surrounding my initial. My roommate’s is identical except her letter is an ‘O’ for Olivia. We DIY’d the heck out of a fake plant, fake flowers, and some wooden letters. On my wall are just some pictures of me with friends and family, alternating with navy patterned triangles. I got them at Michael’s to match the Triangles on my comforter. My bedding is from Bed, Bath, and Beyond, and it came with 2 sets of sheets, 2 sets of towels, 2 washcloths, a mattress pad, a pillow, a throw blanket, and the comforter, obviously for only $129.99. I’m thrilled with it and it’s very cute. I got the remaining pillows from Bed, Bath, and Beyond and the little white pillow in front says “calm.”

Onto my desk area. My desk itself has all of the basics, books, laptop, water, hand sanitizer, air fresheners, office supplies (I love how my desk this year has drawers because the one at San Diego did not :/) etc.

However, above my desk is my absolute favorite part of my room. Starting from the top and working my way down: these 3 posters I think are so cute and the “She designed a life she loved” is one of my favorite quotes. The “Maybe swearing will help” is sort of an inside joke between my roommate and I and the “Let’s GO” poster is my little blip about how I love to travel. I also adored the color of it.

Below that are just some super adorable pumpkin lights that I got at Walmart for like $5. And at the bottom is my cork board with has my schedule at the top and some pictures from home and San Diego below it, which is surrounded by my dry erase monthly and weekly calendars.

Now moving onto my closet and the random crap section of my room. I have a closet, which is filled to the brim on the right side, a built-in shelf unit with storage and pictures on top, my children in the middle, and a shitpile ranging from lipstick to forks on the bottom. Underneath my built-ins are 4 drawers, which I keep my delicates, pajamas, pants, and t-shirts in.

I just figured I would show in my closet. Like I said, filled. Also, that shoe rack on the bottom is a total lifesaver. Behind the rack are boots which I have yet to bring out

Next, I figured I would show my fish tank. Olivia and I are working on our 3rd, 4th, and 5th fish (the first two were flushed) and our first snail. We named our first fishes Adam and made these cute mini chalkboards with their initials and we didn’t want them to go to waste, so for our current family, each of them has their initials on the board (A, D, A, and M). We have Mada the snail (Adam jumbled), another Adam (all orange), Dot (has a dot on her head), and Antoine (black and orange). We are quite the happy family and these guys and gal have lasted longer than the others (knock on wood).

Finally, I wanted to show off our window. Olivia bought these curtains because our pull down blinds sometimes don’t work and I bought twinkly lights to go behind them. It always looks super cool at night and we get compliments on them all the time.

Hope you enjoyed our room.

Until next time

Alicia, Olivia, Adam, Dot, Antoine, and Mada

Change

Good afternoon everyone. I am currently supposed to be reading a chapter for my  Intro to Education class, so naturally, I thought I would sit down and write something.

For the past few weeks, I have been doing a lot of reflecting… and a lot of homework, but let’s not discuss that. Something that always makes me anxious is change. However, all of my best memories came from when I made a big change. Going to San Diego, going vegan, taking a year off of school, going to Peru, transferring to Ohio, joining CHAARG… I could go on. So, then why is it that change makes us so anxious? Why is it that that cancel plans, don’t start new projects, and give up on goals when those are the things we know can/will be in our best interest. Change is so good for us, for our body, for our mind. So good. Why do we fear change?

Today is the start of CHAARG’s fall fit plan and I woke up bright and early at 630 to get to the gym by 730 and get that workout in before my day started. It is also the start of the second half of the semester (seems like just yesterday I was crying in Baker’s 5th-floor bathroom) and I have realized something, I need to stop hating change. Change is hard, change can be messy, and change can be scary, but it can also be incredible, exhilarating, and well worth it.

I am going to try to make a few changes in my life and I will be trying a new change each week of the fitplan (fitplan is 6 weeks so 6 goals).

My goal for this week is to eat at the dining halls… ALONE. Something that has always made me so anxious is being alone. I don’t want to seem like a loner. I feel the need to call someone every time I’m walking alone. If I can’t walk alone… how can I eat alone? In my 7 weeks at OU, I have eaten at a dining hall 5 times… each and every one of those times I was with at least one person.

This afternoon, I walked into the dining hall, alone, and I got food. I got the food to go, mainly because I had homework to attend to but also because I was uncomfortable, but I swiped in aloe nonetheless. I am trying to go to the dining hall daily for lunch (except Tuesdays because I work during the lunch hours) and sit in a little booth, alone. I can work on homework, fiddle on my phone or just simply sit, but I need to be able to be alone, comfortably, in public.
